About BreedSure
Dogs give us their whole lives. BreedSure is here to help you give them the best care you can, so a vet bill never has to decide what happens next.
We show what pet insurance could cost for your breed, age and state, the health conditions your breed is known for and what they cost to treat, and how insurers' plans compare side by side. Free, with no sign-up and no sales calls.
Caring for your dog, one step ahead
- Know your breed. Every breed has its own health story. A Dachshund's back, a Golden's hips, a Bulldog's breathing: knowing what to watch for helps you catch problems early. Start with your breed's page.
- Keep up with checkups. A yearly visit (twice a year for seniors), vaccines and dental care cost far less than treating what they prevent.
- Plan while they're young. Insurance never covers conditions that show up before enrollment, so the healthiest time to decide is early.
- Budget for the unexpected. One surgery can cost thousands. Whether you choose insurance or a savings fund, having a plan means you can say yes to the treatment your dog needs.
- Enjoy every day together. Walks, play and good food do as much for their health as any policy.
Independent, and on your side
No insurer owns, funds or controls BreedSure, and no insurer can pay to be listed or to rank higher. We are not an insurance company, and we are not a licensed insurance agent, broker or producer. We do not sell insurance or give personalized insurance advice: we give you clear numbers so you can decide for yourself.
How our estimates work
Prices on BreedSure are modeled estimates, not live quotes. The model works like this:
- Each breed has a baseline monthly premium for a 2-year-old dog with 80% reimbursement and a $250 deductible, at the national average.
- We adjust that baseline for your state, then for your dog's age (premiums rise with age, and steeply after age 6), the reimbursement rate and the deductible you choose.
- We show a range, from about 22% below to 30% above the result, because real quotes for similar dogs vary.
- Insurer-specific figures apply a relative price factor for each insurer so you can compare them.
- We rebuild every estimate on the first day of each month.
Your actual price depends on your dog, where you live, the plan you choose and the insurer's underwriting. Always get a quote directly from the insurer before you decide.
The state adjustment (price_multiplier) is a state's average monthly dog insurance premium divided by the national average, from MoneyGeek's per-state "Average Dog Insurance Cost" pages. Each breed x state page also lists any sourced, state-specific facts we could verify — a state's pet-insurance law, its insurance regulator, a real vet-visit cost figure and one more fact — each with a link to its source.
Where insurer details come from
Plan details such as reimbursement options, deductibles, annual limits, waiting periods and underwriters are summarized from each insurer's public information. Insurers change their plans, so details can go out of date, and the insurer's policy documents always control. If you spot an error, tell us at hello@breedsure.com and we will review it.
How we make money
BreedSure is free to use. We may earn a commission when you get a quote or buy through a link marked "Partner link". That never changes the order of our lists or our estimates. How we make money explains the details.
